BBC iPlayer iPad App Available From Thursday
The BBC have today revealed that the long-awaited iPlayer app for iPad will be available in the iTunes store from Thursday February 10th.
BBC Interactive Operations Manager Geoff Marshall made the announcement earlier today on his twitter channel, “iPlayer App for iPad is being released this Thursday – 10th Feb. 3G connection is browse only. Browse+Playback requires Wi-Fi.”
Due to the network strain the iPlayer service places on mobile operators, the iPlayer app only allows browsing when accessed using a 3G connection. A wireless home broadband network is required for programme playback.
A US version of the iPlayer app is planned for release in April, although unlike the free edition available for UK users, the US version will be a subscription based service.
