UK telecoms operator BT have today confirmed that they are still the countries biggest Wi-fi hotspot provider after passing the 2 Million Hotspots mark.

London’s Charring Cross Tube station became the latest addition to the BT wifi network when it was connected with BTOpenzone last week.

In a statement issued earlier today BT Retail’s chief executive officer, Gavin Patterson said: “Demand for wireless access is growing at a record rate, we’ve have added more than 780,000 hotspots in the last six months and will continue to meet the demand as more and more smartphone, laptop, tablet, iPod and e-reader users choose wi-fi to stay connected when they are out and about.”

“What’s more our BT Total Broadband customers have free and unlimited access to the largest wi-fi network in the UK included in their broadband package,” he added.

BT’s UK hotspots include the FON Wi-Fi Community, BT Openzone, BT Openzone hotspots and the BT Business Hub, which according to BT make them the largest wi-fi estate in the UK.

These hotspots are available in homes, independent busines spremises, high street chains, major city centre, and now with the inclusion of Charring Cross, underground too.

BT also offer a free iPhone and Android app to help users find their nearest BT hostpot.
