Everything Everywhere Drop Legal Action Over 800Mhz Spectrum Auction

Everything Everywhere 800MHz Auction
Everything Everywhere (the parent company behind Orange and T-Mobile UK) have today dropped plans to challenge the UK governments upcoming 2011/2012 auction of the low frequency 800MHz spectrum.
It is believed that the 800MHz band will be instead used by a new generation of mobile broadband services.
Everything Everywhere were initially concerned that the 800MHz spectrum auction could allow rival mobile broadband providers O2 and Vodafone UK to establish an unfair advantage in the mobile market.
However, it is now understood that Everything Everywhere’s CEO, Tom Alexander has apparently managed to reach some kind of agreement with the UK government. As a result of these ‘intensive talks’, Everything Everywhere no longer plans to oppow3 the Ofcom auction, but will still press the UK regulator to ensure that a cap is applied
“We have decided to withdraw our threatened legal action and are content to take our chances when it comes to influencing the rules for future spectrum auctions,” the company told the Financial Times.
The governments Communications Minister, Ed Vaizey, appeared to be delighted at today’s news and thanked Mr Alexander for being able to see the bigger picture; “we are now in a very good place to move forward,” said Vaizey.
