Opera Saving Mobile Broadband Users £17.37bn A Year On Data Bills

Opera Mini Mobile Broadband UsageOpera have today released their latest monthly ‘State of the Mobile Web Report’, in which the web browser developer claims to have saved mobile internet users around the world a whopping £17.37bn ($27.4bn) per year on their data bills.

The Opera Mini web browser compresses up to 90% of website data, which helps to lower the amount of mobile broadband data usage on handsets, laptops, and other mobile devices.

The Opera report reveals that last month alone, Opera Mini users generated over 535.3 Million Megabytes’ (MB) of data for operators worldwide, up 9.4% from August 2010. If this data was uncompressed, Opera Mini users would have viewed over 4.9 Petabytes’ of data in September.

In the EU, the United Kingdom, Poland, Germany, Italy, France, Czech Republic, Spain, Netherlands, Romania and Slovakia, are currently the top 10 countries for Opera Mini usage.
