UK Mobile Networks Deal With Royal Wedding Demand

Mobile Broadband Royal Wedding CoverageMobile operators in the UK have put in place emergency systems to help their networks cope with any increased demand that takes place due to the Royal Wedding.

Network capacity has been increased to specific areas of London where demand will see a sharp increase on the day.

For example, Kate Middleton’s home village of Bucklebury has seen a boost to network capacity, as thousands of well-wishers, along with the world’s media descend on the small village.

Vodafone has also reportedly installed portable 3G base stations near the village, to allow “at least double” the number of users to call, text, tweet and update their social networks simultaneously.

Alongside the rural areas, London itself could also struggle to meet the mobile demands of the thousands of visitors that turn out for the Royal event.

Both O2 and Vodafone have installed temporary mobile masts in St James’ Park and Hyde Park, with Vodafone also having doubled the network capacity on Clapham Common in south London, where thousands will be watching the ceremony in front of big screens.
